Folkestone Ska Splash August 16, 17 & 18

The 4th Folkestone SKA Festival takes place on 16th, 17th & 18th August 2013.

Formerly Skabour, the event is now renamed as FOLKESTONE SKA SPLASH and will be the biggest yet with an awesome line up that includes THE SKATALITES, THE SELECTER, THE BEAT, BAD MANNERS, NEVILLE STAPLE BAND, THE TOASTERS, TOOTNSKAMEN with RODDY “RADIATION” BYERS of The Specials and many more bands, for a currently stunning Earlbird ticket of just £20 for the whole weekend festival. The Selecter’s new album “String Theory”

Teflon aka John Sims is pleased to have designed the sleeve and graphics for the forthcoming new album by The Selecter titled “String Theory”.

So how did the album design evolve and what is is String Theory?

We live in a wonderfully complex universe, and we are curious about it by nature. Time and again we have wondered— why are we here?

So, what is the world made of? Ordinary matter is made of atoms, which are in turn made of just three basic components: electrons whirling around a nucleus composed of neutrons and protons. The electron is a truly fundamental particle (it is one of a family of particles known as leptons), but neutrons and protons are made of smaller particles, known as quarks. Quarks are, as far as we know, truly elementary.

String theory is an active research framework in particle physics that attempts to reconcile quantum mechanics and general relativity. It is a contender for a theory of everything, a self-contained mathematical model that describes all fundamental forces and forms of matter. String theory posits that the elementary particles (i.e., electrons and quarks) within an atom are not 0-dimensional objects, but rather 1-dimensional oscillating lines (”strings”).

It is also the wonderful new album of new tracks by The Selecter that will have its fan base skankin’ everytime it is heard and played.

The design was produced in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and QuarkXpress… and a little electron magic by Teflon.
